Twitch names veteran gaming marketer Doug Scott as CMO

Twitch has snagged Zynga's former marketing head as its chief marketing officer, ending the Amazon gaming platform's three-month stretch without a lead marketer.

Doug Scott joins from Zynga

Doug Scott will be based in Twitch’s San Francisco office, where he replaces former chief marketer Kate Jhaveri. His predecessor left after two years in the role to take up the top marketing job at the NBA.

The company began advertising the position later that month. The job ad’s responsibilities listed owning the “positioning, messaging, branding, segmentation, strategy and creative direction focused on continuing Twitch’s evolution in the ‘multiplayer entertainment' space”.

Sara Clemens, chief operating officer of Twitch, said Scott will play “an integral role” in the brand’s goal to reach consumers beyond its endemic audiences.

“Doug has deep experience extending brands into new markets across games and entertainment industries, making him the ideal fit to lead Twitch’s marketing strategy,” she added.

Scott brings prior experience in gaming to the role. He worked at Electronic Arts for almost six years, ending his time there with a promotion to vice president, global online product marketing.

After stints at YouTube Music and BandPage, he joined social gaming developer Zynga in 2016.

Scott said: "Twitch is revolutionizing entertainment through its massive and highly engaged community of creators and fan. I could not be more excited to join this incredible team and help to bring Twitch’s unique culture, brand and its passionate community to new audiences and global markets.”

Twitch hired its first executive creative director in April of this year, while Google’s Dan Clancy was brought in as executive vice-president of creator and community experience in July.

Twitch was acquired by Amazon for $970m in 2014.
